The team at SaxaVord Distillery, the home of our award-winning Shetland Reel Gin, can today announce the launch of our new sister brand: Good Heaven’s Gin.
With the distillery located just a few miles from SaxaVord Spaceport - the first licensed vertical launch site in Northern Europe - the first limited-edition release unites Shetland’s history of quality craft gin with the UK’s growing space sector.
Good Heavens Gin sets out to honour the intimate moments and harsh realities beyond the public perception of the space industry: The sting of the rain, the smell of the sea and the sound of the wind that comes with building a Spaceport on Unst, Scotland’s most northerly island.
The gin itself carries notes of locally harvested applemint, bladderwrack seaweed and sugar kelp gathered on Scotland’s coasts. The distillers recommend serving with a premium tonic, ribbon of cucumber and pinch of sea salt.
Debbie Strang, Co-Founder of Shetland Reel and Deputy CEO of SaxaVord Spaceport, said:
“This new brand from Shetland Distillery Company captures the true essence of the space industry on Unst. No aliens, no astronauts, just sheer determination and hard work to reach our first launch.
I’m sure you know we’ve been making gin here long before rockets were ever part of the conversation, so this collaboration felt completely natural. We do things the SaxaVord way and this gin is a prime example of that. It gives people a chance to hold a piece of our journey in their hands as we toast the launches to come.”
