Up Helly Aa 2022 is the seventh annual release of our limited-edition Up Helly Aa series, released every January to celebrate the annual fire festivals held throughout Shetland.

Whilst Up Helly Aa festivals have been postponed for 2022, this year’s expression returns to our traditional cask-aged offering – following on from last year’s unique ‘Not Up Helly Aa’ release.

Using 2020’s festive Hawthorn Gin as the starting point, our distillery team have aged the gin in casks which had previously stored Stewart’s Rum - a popular tipple across the Shetland Isles.

The end result is another spectacular Up Helly Aa gin that can be enjoyed at home or added to the collections of those who have been celebrating our Up Helly Aa journey since 2015.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Opens with gentle juniper notes which quickly make way for notes of warm mincemeat and custard. 

Taste: Like the nose the pallet opens with Juniper that quickly subsides and makes way for creamy lemon posset with hints of vanilla and cinnamon spice. 

Lasting: The finish comes in waves of juniper and lemon posset.

For the perfect Up Helly Aa serve, mix UHA 2022 with Fever-Tree Mediterranean tonic and garnish with pink grapefruit!
