Our aim from the beginning was to be inspired by our surroundings, using local botanicals to create a gin that is completely unique and embodies the place where it originates.

From humble beginnings and after much trialling in our own small still, the first dribbles of Shetland Reel gin started to emerge.

Shetland Reel Gin Original Recipe

We focussed on a recipe that includes apple mint, grown and harvested here on Unst by Unst Market Garden.

We carried out product trials with many willing participants and our blind tastings revealed the recipe which stands above them all.  This became our original recipe Shetland Reel Gin.

In 2015 this gin was awarded a Silver Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Awards. We also gained recognition at the Scottish Rural Awards gaining a Highly Commended trophy for Best Artisan Drink.

Shetland Reel Ocean Sent Gin

In November 2015 we released our second gin - Ocean Sent which features native bladderwrack seaweed from the Shetland coastline.  The result is a London Dry Gin with a surprising depth of flavour that also makes a fabulous cocktail base. You may have tried other craft Scottish gins before, but there are none quite like ours.

In 2016, Ocean Sent was also awarded a Silver Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Awards.

Shetland Reel Music

In the summer of 2015 we set up the UK's most northerly music festival - The Shetland Reel Music Festival, based here on the island of Unst at the northern most tip of Shetland.  The festival featured artists from all over the UK and America with young local musicians playing alongside notable US artists such as Marley's Ghost and Emmy Award winning, singer-songwriter Jim Salestrom.
